In 1948 Modig Mekaniska Verkstad AB was founded in Virserum. From the beginning Modig focused on lathes and universal drills, and Modig became well knowed for it’s high standards. For example, this was recognized in 1962, when Modig recived an order from the Swedish Army for 170 lathes, in competition with many others.

During the 1980′s Modig started develop machining centres for high speed machining. In 1987 the first high speed machining centre were introduced at the market and since that Modig has constanlty developed new and improved products for high speed machining.
